Ogni comunità ritrova se stessa nei propri riti, credenze e usi, un modo di vivere portato avanti affinché il domani sia sicuro e degno come lo è stato il passato (il sostrato culturale) cioè il vissuto già sperimentato e scritto nel grande "testo" dell'umanità, fatto di conoscenza e coscienza civile.

Fra i riti di propiziazione di fertilità invernali, a Carnevale nel periodo di passaggio tra due stagioni, che si  svolgono in Molise con correlazioni storico-antropologiche accanto alla manifestazione del Diavolo di Tufara (CB) e al Cervo di Castelnuovo al Volturno (IS), l'Uomo-Orso o "U' Ball dell'Urz", il Ballo dell'Orso, ce lo ritroviamo a Jelsi, in provincia di Campobasso.
Tenuto a catena da un domatore e un aiutante che gli impongono di danzare sotto la minaccia di percosse con un bastone, tra accenni di ribellione e passi di danza, fra i vicoli del borgo si espandono le note di improvvisati musicisti. Di tanto in tanto, il gruppo bussa alle porte delle case e al comando: "Orso a posto! Orso olè! Balla orso!" la famiglia ospitante offre da bere e da mangiare.

La manifestazione, interrotta con l'avvento della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, è stata rimessa in piedi a Carnevale del 2008 dal regista Pierluigi Giorgio che già nel 1993 "rispolverò" quella del Cervo a Castelnuovo. Alla pantomima tradizionale, ha voluto affiancarne una più teatrale "La Ballata dell'Uomo-Orso". Il  messaggio che si evince dal testo stesso della Ballata, non è tanto di interpretazione etno-antropologica ma di tipo più psicologico , oltre naturalmente all'immagine di un dio pagano piegato dalla religione cristiana o di Dioniso che "ucciso" si fa seme e frumento. L'interpretazione che il regista ne dà attraverso le rime, non è altro che la paura del diverso o di quella parte di sé libera e selvaggia occultata e rimossa dall'individuo o dalla comunità per buona pace di tutti.

Another  Zoo-morphic  tradition during Carnaval in Molise ...

Each community finds itself in its rites , beliefs and customs , a way of continuing life that they can respect in the future of being worthy as it was in the past , i.e./ already experienced and lived as it has been noted in many nexts throughout humanity , made of civil conscience and knowledge .
 
Among the rituals of the Winter Carnival , known as fertility - which occurs during the period of transition between two seasons , takes place with anthropological and historical correlations within the region , such as the manifestations of the Devil of Tufara(CB) and Deer-man of Volturno(IS) . Bear-man , also known as the Bear-dance , is located at Jelsi , province of Campobasso .
 The tradition is that a chain(people) is held by a Tamer and a Helper , to which requires dancing under the threat of beatings with a stick , all this happening meanwhile dancing with rebellious and dance moves , this occuring throughout the alleys of the village with improvised music . Occasionally , the Bear-dance folks  knock on doors and command the host family for drink and food .
 
The event ends with the advent of the second world war , and it had been brought back to life in the Carnival of 2008 by its director Pierluigi George that also brought back to life in 1993 the Deer-man custom of Castelnuovo . The traditional pantomime , wanted to play a more theatrical stagging of  the Dance of the Bear . The message that was seen , isn't so much about ethno-anthropological interpretation but one  more psychological , with the image of a Pagan God that fell by the Christian faith who "killed" , and turned into seed .
The interpretation that the director gives through rhymes , is nothing more than the fear of the unknown , and , that individual being of oneself for the community for good peace .
