Per le vie del borgo risuonano nitidamente i colpi del mastro scalpellino, sicuri, regolari come i battiti del cuore di un gigante, gli stessi che risuonano lungo l’imponente falesia che avvolge con calore il suo piccolo gioiello, lasciando che si affacci con fierezza a dominare la Valle del Sangro. Dalle sue mani prenderà vita come per incanto un desiderio, che sia uno scrigno di gioie e segreti o il corpo sinuoso di una donna. Lì, dove i boschi si perdono alla vista dell’uomo, lì, dove il cielo è più vicino e quando è limpido si perde nel mare..la storia, le antiche arti, le tradizioni e il futuro sono intrecciate per l’eternità. Pescopennataro ha una storia lunga molti lustri. Numerosi reperti in pietra fanno risalire i primi insediamenti umani della zona all’epoca dei Sanniti. Alcuni documenti testimoniano la fondazione del nucleo abitativo intorno al IX sec. in età normanna. In principio il paese fu edificato nella parte alta, su uno sperone di roccia, in posizione difensiva. Diverse furono le famiglie che si alternarono al governo del borgo almeno fino alla fine del XIV sec. Il primo maggio 1816 il comune conquistò la propria autonomia. Ma conobbe anche le piaghe della guerra, andando totalmente distrutto durante il secondo conflitto mondiale, che ne costrinse la diaspora degli abitanti nel fitto bosco de La Vazzaluna. Crebbe di nuovo, forte e leggiadro, grande più di prima incastonato ai piedi del monte San Lorenzo e del monte Torrione. Oggi è uno dei paesi più belli dell’alto Molise, capace di trasmettere le sensazioni profonde che solo la natura inviolata può regalare. Sentieri incantati e panorami mozzafiato, un tuffo nella storia e le specialità gastronomiche sono i preziosi doni di una terra incontaminata, che persuade il viaggiatore avido di vita semplice ed autentica. Gli abeti bianchi, con i faggi e gli abeti rossi accolgono gli amanti della montagna, le stagioni catturano il viandante con uno spettacolo di colori che nemmeno l’arcobaleno conosce. La verde autostrada del Tratturo Ateleta-Biferno resiste nei secoli a ricordo delle origini di un popolo dedito alla pastorizia. D’inverno la neve scende copiosa sulle cime del massiccio roccioso, penetra nelle profondità della terra donando linfa vitale alla natura che al suo risveglio sarà più forte e rigogliosa. L’ospitalità dura tutto  l’anno. Da aprile ad ottobre i week end immersi nella natura sono da non perdere, perché organizzati per non lasciare nulla di sconosciuto e d’inverno è adatto per gli amanti dello sport sulla neve, con le sue piste di sci da fondo. Le pareti attrezzate per praticare l’arrampicata su roccia, con tanto di scuola, sono disponibili tutti i mesi dell’anno. Le escursioni guidate nel territorio dell’alto Molise, le visite al Museo della Pietra e alle botteghe artigiane sono un fiore all’occhiello di ciò che Pescopennataro può offrire agli amanti del turismo en plen air che si arricchirà molto presto di nuove iniziative, come il Museo Ambientale, con una sala convegni e spazi per le attività sportive, il Parco di Pinocchio, un’area interamente dedicata al burattino più famoso del mondo. Per non parlare delle iniziative culturali che fervono nella bella stagione.
