'Lu mazzemarelle'…la credenza popolare abruzzese
A San Salvo ‘la notte de lu mazzemarelle’ rievocazione con stand gastronomici
Nelle credenze popolari della nostra terra ha sempre avuto una particolare importanza la presenza benigna o maligna degli spiriti: gnomi ( geni di piccola statura, il loro potere benefico si spiegava in difesa dei tesori dei loro padroni ); folletti ( spiritelli strambi, vivaci, e goliardici ); elfi ( personificazione delle forze benefiche della natura ); silfi e silfidi ( spiriti leggiadri agili ma malefici ); lupimannari ( esseri mostruosi in parte uomini in parte lupi e con i piedi di capra ); mazzimarelli... I mazzimarelli hanno occupato un posto particolare nella fantasia popolare: Raffaele Artese, nel suo poemetto ''Lu Mazzemarelle'' ( Ed. Cannarsa ), afferma che ''...lu mazzemarelle simboleggia la vita, l'azione, la vittoria sulla morte ingiusta''. I mazzimarelli sarebbero stati la personificazione dell'anima dei bambini morti senza battesimo. ''Il ritorno misterioso tra i viventi...'', prosegue Artese, ''...è la riaffermazione di un diritto negato, l'equilibrio ristabilito nella vicenda esistenziale: è un atto di giustizia. Il bambino morto senza battesimo torna a vivere ma trasformato in mazzemarelle, un essere quasi imprendibile con forme non ben definite. I suoi poteri sono vanificati, se perde il cappuccio che gli ricopre il capo. Conosce i luoghi ove sono custoditi tesori, agisce nelle ore notturne, è ilare e dispettoso...'' Al mazzemarello si attribuivano un’ infinità di malanni, disavventure, calamità; era lo spauracchio dei bambini ed il tormento degli adulti: di notte pizzicava e mordeva, comprimeva lo stomaco, mozzava il fiato, stuzzicava le fanciulle con sogni erotici... Non c'era molestia che trascurasse. Tuttavia, come ricorda anche il Piovesan ne ''La città di San Salvo'' ( Ed. Itinerari ), egli ''...conosceva i tesori nascosti, lusingava in sogno di svelarne i nascondigli e si sbellicava dalle risa mentre il contadino sudava nello scavare cercando. Entrava nelle case a porte chiuse, si nascondeva tra le botti, entro le greppie, sotto le tegole... E riusciva sempre a farla franca... L'unico suo punto debole era perdere il cappuccio rosso. Impossessarsene era come tagliare i capelli a Sansone. Per questo ogni famiglia conservava tra gli indumenti un cappuccio rosso.

La serata sarà allietata da spettacoli teatrali, musicali e degustazioni di piatti tipici.
